In this artist talk, Gala Hernández López will present her trilogy of films — The Mechanics of Fluids (2022), for here am I sitting in a tin can far above the world (2024), and +10k (2025) — in which male protagonists embody the ‘Promethean fantasies’ of technocapitalism: the dream of boundless mastery of reality through technology. Focusing on her new work "like moths to light", on dream-engineering technologies, she will explore how the neglected figure of Epimetheus, Prometheus’ brother, might open the way towards an alternative and more desirable ‘epimethean politics’ of technology in late capitalism.

Gala Hernández López is an artist, filmmaker and researcher whose interdisciplinary practice combines filmmaking with the creation of video installations, performances, and academic research. Her work critically analyzes new modes of subjectivation produced by computational capitalism. She examines the imaginaries circulating in virtual communities, the desires and futures conveyed by disruptive technologies, and new reactionary techno-utopias as shared fictions that populate our collective unconscious.  This past summer, her work was exhibited at the Berlinische Galerie.

She has also been featured in many international festivals and institutions such as Cannes, Berlinale, Palais de Tokyo, DOK Leipzig, IndieLisboa, transmediale. Her film La Mécanique des fluides won the César for Best Documentary Short Film in 2024. www.galahernandez.com
