Dance and Democratic Relational Practices in the Contemporary Art Museum
14:15-15:45
Hörsaal, Institute for Theater Studies
Sara Wookey worked closely with Yvonne Rainer as a dancer, choreographer, and teaching assistant at the University of California, Irvine. Since 2010, she has been one of seven dance artists certified by Rainer to transmit Trio A (1966). Wookey is also authorized to teach Street Action (1972) and Trio A Pressured (1999). Through performances, lectures, and workshops across the US, Europe, and Southeast Asia, she offers a thorough, embodied exploration of these works for dancers, scholars, and the public. Her approach combines movement practice with historical and pedagogical insight, which helps to preserve and keep Rainer's choreographic language relevant by using a socially engaged, democratic ethos.
