The essays in this book explore how fiction, life-writing, and comics portray illness, medical treatment, and disability. PathoGraphics advances discussions about how works in these different forms craft narratives and use aesthetics to negotiate contention, build community around experiences of illness and disability, and discover how such experiences circulate within the realms of medicine, art, the personal and the cultural. The contributors to this volume examine the ways in which comics and literary texts create an audience and galvanize not just empathy but also action.
