Vielleicht. Formen literarischer Eventualität

Jüngere Veröffentlichungen und aktuelle Theoriedebatten betonen in auffälligem Maße den zukunftsbezogenen Charakter, der der Literatur eigen ist – wobei Zukunft als ein offener und kontingenter Projektions- und Möglichkeitsraum verstanden wird. Zum zehnjährigen Bestehen der Friedrich Schlegel Graduiertenschule widmet sich die Jahrestagung 2018 unter dem Titel „Formen literarischer Eventualität“ den literarischen Verhandlungsformen von Zukünften und ihren fiktionalen Lizenzen, ihren Spiel- und Reflexionswelten, die ins Jetzt zurückwirken: als Spiegelungen, Modelle oder Entwürfe. Jenseits einer starren Dichotomie von Faktizität und Fiktion verspricht die Literatur – im Imaginieren des vielleicht oder nur unter bestimmten Bedingungen Möglichen, im ereignisbewussten und zugleich vagen Antizipieren – ein Ineinandergreifen und Neuverhandeln von Möglichem und Wirklichem. Die Tagung möchte daher in Ergänzung und Abgrenzung zur wissensgeschichtlichen und kulturwissenschaftlichen Konjunktur der Erforschung von Simulations-, Modell-, und Szenarientechniken dezidiert nach der Eventualität als mehrdimensionalem Modus und Verhandlungsform der Literatur, nach deren spezifischer Beschaffenheit und Wirkmacht fragen.

Im interdisziplinären Austausch und mit internationalen Gästen fokussiert die zweisprachige Tagung dabei neben Formen literarischer Weltmodellierung experimentelle Text-, Sprech- und Schreibpraktiken im Zeichen der Eventulität, neben Modellen neuen Lesens und Forschens auch die Bedeutung eines Modus der Eventualität für die Ausbildung theoretischer Rezeptionslinien und die wissenschaftliche Konzeptualisierung von Literatur. Das Format des „Laboratoriums“ ermöglicht zudem in kurzen Präsentationsslots einen Einblick in Aspekte literarischer Eventualität einzelner Promotions- und Forschungsprojekte der FSGS.

Maybe. Forms of Literary Eventuality

Recent publications and current theoretical debates place a remarkable emphasis upon the future-oriented characteristics of literature – with the ‘future’ being understood as an open and contingent space of projection and possibility. On the occasion of its tenth anniversary and under the title Forms of Literary Eventuality, the Friedrich Schlegel Graduate School of Literary Studies annual conference will be dedicated to literary negotiations of different futures and their own fictional licenses, their spaces for reflection and play, affecting our current world-view as sketches, reflections, or models.

In its multidimensional mode of eventuality literature is capable of transcending the strict dichotomy between fact and fiction and of renegotiating the entangled relations of the possible and the real – through forms of both the exemplary and the uncertain, of both an event-aware and anticipatory prospection, and of imagining the maybe or that which is possible only under certain circumstances. This conference therefore seeks to investigate eventuality as a literary mode and form of negotiation, as well as to examine its distinctive constitution and potential.

Besides focusing on forms of literary world-building, the bilingual conference will in an interdisciplinary exchange and with international guests investigate experimental textualisation and writing practices under the sign of eventuality, models of new reading and researching and the significance of ‘eventuality’ within the reception and academic conceptualization of literature. In addition, the conference will provide a ‘laboratory’ where short presentations will provide insight into the aspects of literary eventuality as developed in individual doctoral and research projects within the FSGS.
