Masterstudiengang "Sprachwissenschaft"
The master's program Linguistics offers graduates with a degree in linguistics or in language and literature the opportunity to deepen and expand their competence in linguistics on a high level of academic expertise. Students are able to specialize in structural, historical, social and cognitive aspects of human language, particularly from a cross-linguistic perspective.
The program offers in-depth academic education in current research areas of linguistics. It develops and enhances the students’ theoretical and methodological skills and provides guidance in empirical research strategies for linguistic and interdisciplinary research questions. The program encourages students to refine their academic judgement and to engage in creative and interdisciplinary dialogue with an open mind. Moreover, language classes are an integral part of the program.
One main professional field after graduation will be linguistic research (PhD projects in various institutional settings). But many of our graduates also find a professional home as linguistic experts with a high level of foreign language competence in various other fields like media or journalism, politics and related areas, or in language processing and AI, among many others.
Requirement for admission to the M.A Linguistics is a degree with at least 20 ECTS points from linguistics modules as well as a very good command of English and of (at least) one other language besides German.
The Master's program Linguistics is set up and carried out by the Interdisciplinary Centre European Languages: Structures - Development - Comparison (iZEUS).
