Study Abroad at Indiana University Bloomington
The FSGS has an exchange agreement with the Department of Germanic Studies at the Indiana University, College of Arts and Sciences Bloomington. Each year, one spot is available for a “visiting scholar.” The stay must last at least one semester (15 weeks) and can be extended to up to one year.
Would you like to spend your time abroad at Indiana University Bloomington? Then:
- Notify the FSGS office
- Ideally, your stay should begin in late August (for the fall semester) or early January (for the spring semester). Application documents must be submitted to the office at least five months prior to the planned stay to allow enough time for visa arrangements.
- Compile your application materials, including: a letter of motivation, an outline of your doctoral project (in German or English), and a CV in English. Please send your application via email (CV as a separate PDF file) to the FSGS office.
- Ask your supervisor team to provide a brief statement of support for the stay abroad via email to the FSGS office.
- Check the visa requirements for the USA. Make sure your passport is valid for the duration of your planned stay.
- Contact your health insurance provider to verify whether you are covered during your stay in the USA. Your insurance must meet Indiana University’s requirements to avoid having to purchase additional coverage at your own expense through the university.
