If you are ill or unable to work, please inform your work area and the institute administration. A phone call before the start of work with an estimate of the duration is sufficient, but we recommend sending an additional email as well.
Since 1 January, 2023, employers are required to electronically retrieve sick leave data from health insurance providers. Employees must still inform Freie Universität Berlin about their illness but will no longer submit the sick leave certificate in paper form. The employer will request the data electronically from the insurance company. Employees with private health insurance or those who become ill abroad and need local treatment will still need to submit a paper certificate. On the first day of return to work, please report your health where you previously reported sick. By law, the personnel administration of Freie Universität is entitled to request a medical certificate from the first day of illness.
