Interdisciplinary Center European Languages

Interdisziplinäres Zentrum Europäische Sprachen

The Interdisciplinary Centre European Languages: Structures – Development – Comparison brought together representatives from English, Romance, German, Dutch, and Indo-European Studies, Philosophy, North American Studies, Turkology, Islamic Studies, and the Language Center.

The Centre’s aim was to provide a forum for all areas of linguistic research at Freie Universität Berlin and to pool and strengthen the existing resources in research and teaching at the university. In addition to its research activities, the Centre was also responsible for two interdisciplinary degree programmes in linguistics: the Bachelor’s programme Language and Society and the Master’s programme Linguistics (originally titled Languages of Europe: Structures and Use).

In summer 2025, the Centre was superseded by the newly established Dahlem Center for Linguistics.
