Das Institut lädt ein zu einem Vortrag von Esther Neuhann:

Abstract: I argue that Fichte’s political philosophy as formulated in the Foundations of Natural Right (1796/7) rests on a “sexual contract”. The relation between free equals (“free reciprocal efficacy”) that Fichte’s political philosophy is centered around is not self-sufficient but is enabled by the subjection of women. I draw on Carol Pateman’s analysis in The Sexual Contract (1988). She argued more generally, though without mentioning Fichte, that canonical works of Western political philosophy defend individual freedom and equality universally (or were read in this way), while resting on the subjection of women. Reconstructing Fichte’s specific Sexual Contract is not only historically interesting, but also contributes to advancing feminist philosophy. This is because Fichte’s political philosophy is – at least at first sight – attractive from a feminist viewpoint since it emphasizes both (non-contractual) relationality and embodiment.
