AI tools for research and writing are currently the subject of controversial debates. Developments are proceeding as rapidly as they are complex. In addition to versatile basic tools such as ChatGPT or Gemini, there is now a range of AI applications specifically developed for the academic sector. These include helpful tools for literature search and analysis, support for feedback processes, as well as for editing and refining texts linguistically.
The workshop approaches the topic from various perspectives. First, we will examine how language-based AI models work in particular. Only in this way can results be properly contextualised and critically evaluated. In a second step, we will try out various AI tools and discuss our experiences with them in the group. Finally, we will reflect on the potential of AI tools as support for academic research and writing, but also on the limitations of working with AI.
