Highly Visible Research. How to Publish your Doctoral Dissertation Open Access

28.10.2026 | 10:00 - 11:00

The doctoral dissertation is a crucial step in advancing your academic career. Publishing open access makes your research highly visible by removing the paywall between you and your potential readership. This workshop aims to help doctoral students identify the benefits of open access for their first book, and provides them with practical knowledge on how to navigate the publication process — starting with a short recap of the Open Access basics

We work interactively, with break-out rooms that allow for a better focus on your individual situation, and the option to ask your questions in German or English (the presentation itself will be held in English).

No prior knowledge on the topic is required. The workshop is not suited for cumulative dissertations.

Content

  • Choosing between different roads of Open Access (gold, diamond, green)
  • Getting an offer from the publishers that fits your book best
  • Comparing prices (publication fees) and services of different publishers
  • Organizing financial support well in advance
  • Checking and adjusting your publishing contract
  • Understanding the different Creative-Common Licenses

Please take 2–3 minutes to answer two questions in advance about your expectations of this workshop. Your feedback will help us tailor our offers even more closely to your needs.
