Jule Flierl describes Störlaut as “an underground noise, a resistance in the production of meaning that undermines the harmonious functioning of regulatory mechanisms.” In her homage to Valeska Gert's Tontanz (sound dance), the voice that traverses the body becomes a site of disarticulation. Eszter Salamon emphasises the archaeological site in MONUMENT “in which the untraceable, unheard and unseen are re-hallucinated, giving rise to a new territory of meaning and sense of intimacy”. Both are concerned with a speculative re-animation of the figure of Valeska Gert. My contribution explores these queer practices of alienation.

Dr Kirsten Maar is a dance and theater scholar and dramaturge and holds a lecturer position at FU Berlin. Her work focuses on choreographic processes in the 20th century, the blurring of boundaries between the visual arts, architecture and choreography, ethics of curating and dramaturgy. Within the DFG Collaborative Research Centre ‘Intervening Arts’ she researches “Choreographies of Intervention. Formats and Practices of Decolonization and Ecology”; and she is Principal Investigator in the DFG Research Training Group ‘Normativity – Critique – Change’.
