The programme in Literature Education/German Literature explores literature and other media from the perspective of developing literary-aesthetic competence. It combines the study of literature – in both a narrow and broader sense – with a focus on learning and teaching. The question of selecting and studying literary works is addressed alongside the question of how students can meaningfully engage with them. On an interdisciplinary basis that benefits from philology as well as the social sciences the program takes into account developmental perspectives and empirical approaches to German language instruction, literary education, and the teaching profession.
