Cambridge Profile Dr. Francesca Carota

Personal Profile:

I hold a PhD in Computational and Cognitive Linguistics from the University of Pisa and CNR, Italy, specializing on computational and cognitive pragmatics and a MA in Computational Linguistics from the Faculty of Classics from the University of Pisa, Italy, specializing in computational analysis of linguistic complexity (structure and meaning) in Ancient Languages.

Before moving to the School of Mind and Brain of the Humboldt and the Brain and Language Lab in Berlin, I worked at the ILC-CNR of Pisa, Italy, Gipsa Lab/Institut Polythecnique de Grenobles, France, ISC-CNRS in Lyon, France. I have been a staff member MRC-CBU and Cambridge University.

I am a Visiting Scientist at the Department of Psychology of Cambridge University.

Research interests:

• Neurocognition of language.
• Cross-linguistic study of linguistic complexity (meaning and structure).
• Multimodal communication: parallels between action and language.
• Decoding of linguistic information from metabolic and neurophysiological responses to language tasks.
• Methods: Behavioural and Natural Language Processing (NLP) Methods to elucidate language processes in the brain.
• NeuroImaging Methods: functional magnetic Resonance (fMRI); Electro-/Magneto-encephalography (EEG/MEG); Analyses: Classical Univariate Analyses and Multi-Voxel Pattern Analyses (MVPA), Representational Similarity Analysis, Deep Learning
