New European Joint Doctorate Programme “MOVES – Migration and Modernity: Historical and Cultural Challenges at Freie Universität
After the end of the postgraduate programme of TEEME (Text and Event in Early Modern Europe), Freie Universität Berlin in conjunction with the universities of Kent (Canterbury), Prague, Porto and new partner university Montpellier has succeeded in winning a new European Joint Doctorate programme within the Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions scheme. The new programme, entitled “MOVES – Migration and Modernity: Historical and Cultural Challenges”, will be based at the Institute for English Language and Literature in conjunction with the Friedrich Meinecke Institute. Its innovative impact lies in its combination of the Humanities and the Social Sciences and in its particular focus on the historical, cultural and social roots of migration. The programme is based on the assumption that only a historical understanding of migration will enable reliable solutions for the future. The four-year project will start on March 1, 2019 and will, in addition to the universities concerned, also include eighteen non-academic partners in its activities.
