Ph.D. project

„Techniques of Literary Writing in the Digital Mediosphere.“

Draft

The dissertation “Techniques of Literary Writing in the Digital Mediosphere” addresses the question of how the use of computers and auto-operative writing has changed our engagement with written texts, the writing and the literary forms of expression.

At least since the invention of the letterpress, literature has been closely related to its written form. A significant part of its literary nature becomes manifest in the written text. With the digitalisation of literary texts and the correlated use of auto-operative writing, literature has been and will continue to be transformed remarkably.

On the one hand, the artistic examination of new media points to future opportunities, while on the other hand, the focus on literature opens up an interesting area of conflict: literary texts, which can be mainly characterized as referential texts, are accompanied by, and will be associated with, the programming languages, which are written with auto-operative writing, and binary code. Digital texts are always a conglomerate of picture, script and figure. Science, publishing companies and masterminds of the digital culture have come to recognize this fact, but it has not yet adequately explored.

The area of conflict between literary texts, programming languages and binary code is duplicated and reflected in the production of literary texts in digital media on different levels, and new forms of text compositions are emerging.

In addition to the theoretical part of this dissertation, which seeks to identify the connection between the three different types of writing in digital texts, the project will also analyze some concrete examples.
