The application documents need to be submitted in in digital form. Applications handed in outside the schedule (October to December) cannot be taken into consideration.

From 2015 onwards, FSGS will be using the DRS online portal for applications. Preparations are taking place. The portal will be opened in October 2015.

Filling in the online application and uploading documents

  • a proposal showing that the doctoral project is innovative, elaborated and well-grounded in theory (8-10 pages, in German or English);

  • a work and time schedule, giving an overview of your plans for the entire three years of work on your dissertation, or for the two years of your PostDoc project;

  • a sample of your academic work (e.g. a chapter of a Master’s / PhD thesis, not longer than 15-20 pages);

  • two letters of recommendation by experts (usually: university professors);  

  • a personal data sheet (photo and age information are not mandatory);

  • a motivation letter, giving the reasons for applying at FSGS and stating how you would like to contribute to the school’s success (in German or English, 2-3 pages);

  • copies of academic degrees acquired;

  • language certificates, proving your proficiency in both German (C1 / DSH 2 / ZOP / TestDaF 4 / DSD II) and English (B2 / IELTS 5.0 / TOEFL 500-170-80 / Cambridge Examination CEA / 7 years of English class in German schools) as far as the languages are not your mother tongue;

  • two recommendation letters (given by professors) that will be uploaded seperately.

Incomplete applications cannot be submitted. All entries in our online application platform will be saved automatically till you finally send your application to us.
